How a Southlake Chamber ribbon cutting led to a daycare cleaning job
This daycare cleaning job in Southlake didn't start with a phone call. It started with a handshake. Kids Inn Child Care Center hired Hank's Carpet Cleaning for a full commercial floor cleaning before its grand opening, and we met the owners at their own ribbon cutting.
This fall, our owner, Chase, went to the ribbon cutting for Kids Inn Child Care Center, hosted by the center's new owners together with the Southlake Chamber of Commerce. Ribbon cuttings are where local business owners show up for each other: a new business opens its doors, the community celebrates, and everyone trades a few business cards. Kids Inn is a new childcare center at 621 E Southlake Blvd, Suite 120, getting ready to welcome its first families.
The conversation turned to floors almost right away. Their grand opening was set for November 1, and the building had been through all the usual pre-opening work: furniture deliveries, wall murals, classroom shelves and play equipment built and rolled into place. All of that leaves its mark on a floor. They wanted every room to look its best when the first parents walked in, and they wanted it done by a local team that would treat their new space with care. So they hired us to deep clean all of the floors before opening day.
Why daycare floors need more than a mop
In most businesses, a floor is something people walk across. In a daycare, the floor is where the day happens. Toddlers crawl on it, sit on it for circle time, build block towers on it and eat snacks over it. Parents notice it the moment they walk in for a tour. A clean, bright floor tells a family that the people running the center pay attention to the details, and for a brand-new center, that first impression matters.
Kids Inn has two kinds of floor. About 1,600 square feet is commercial vinyl plank (LVP), and the indoor playground sits on interlocking foam play mats. Vinyl plank is a smart choice for childcare: it's durable, water-resistant and easy to keep up with day to day. But easy to maintain isn't the same as never needing a deep clean. Construction dust, scuffs from moving furniture, sticky residue and the fine grit that gets ground in by foot traffic all settle into the textured surface of the plank. A daily mop moves that grime around more than it lifts it, and over time the floor looks dull and uneven, especially where the light hits it.

Planning a commercial floor cleaning around a grand opening
Before we touched anything, we walked the building with the owners. We looked at each room, how it would be used, what was already on the floor, and how much furniture and equipment would need to move. We also asked about timing, because in a childcare center the schedule matters as much as the cleaning. Everything had to be finished and ready well before staff training and the first families arrived.
That's how every commercial floor cleaning we do starts: a free on-site walkthrough, a written quote for exactly what gets cleaned, and a time that fits the business instead of the other way around.
Our daycare floor cleaning process, step by step
Here's what the job looked like from start to finish.
1. Clear the rooms and prep
We moved what could be moved and worked around the built-in pieces, like the activity wall, the play kitchen and the storage units. Rugs and soft play pieces were lifted or set aside, and everything went back exactly where it came from.
2. Remove dry soil and grit
Before any machine touches the floor, the loose dirt has to go. Grit is what scratches vinyl, so we removed the dust and debris first.
3. Orbital scrubbing on the vinyl plank (LVP)
On the LVP we used a commercial orbital floor machine with a scrubbing brush. Instead of spinning in circles like an old-style buffer, an orbital machine vibrates in tight, fast motions, which works grime out of the textured surface of the plank evenly and right up to the baseboards. In a room where toddlers crawl and play, what goes on the floor matters too: the cleaning solution we used is safe for kids.
4. Microfiber pad pass to lift the grime
A floor machine fitted with a microfiber pad followed behind to pick up what the brush loosened. You can see the difference mid-pass: cleaned plank on one side, the grime still waiting on the other.

5. Cleaning the foam play mats under the playground
The indoor playground sits on interlocking foam mats that see just as much traffic as the floors, from little feet, snacks and spills. We cleaned the mats in place with the microfiber pad, working gently so the foam and the seams between tiles weren't damaged.

6. Edges, corners and doorways
Edges, corners, doorways and the transitions between rooms got extra attention. Those are the spots a mop never quite reaches, and the first places a parent's eye lands. Then we walked every room with fresh eyes, touched up anything that needed it, and put each room back together.
The result: 1,600 sq ft of clean vinyl plank, ready for families
The photos tell the story better than we can. Look at the main play room: before, the floor was flat and dingy; after, it's bright and shiny, and the whole room looks lighter. Before, the textured surface of the plank was packed with gray grime that made the whole floor look dull. After, the wood grain and light color of the vinyl show through again. The classrooms went from flat and grimy to a clean, even finish, and in the main play room, the open floor around the play kitchen, activity wall and reading corner is free of the dust and scuffs from the build-out.
Most importantly, the floors were done well ahead of the November 1 grand opening, so the center could open with floors that look as fresh as the rest of the building.

Quarterly floor maintenance for Southlake childcare centers
One deep clean resets the floors. Keeping them that way is a schedule. Kids Inn will have us back every quarter: the first visit brought the vinyl plank and play mats back to a clean, even finish, and a cleaning every three months keeps them looking like opening day instead of slowly sliding back to dull and grimy.
For a childcare center, quarterly works well. It lines up with the natural rhythm of a school year, it gets ahead of the buildup from daily traffic and spills, and it means the floors parents see on a tour in month nine look like the floors they saw in month one.
Commercial floor cleaning for other Southlake businesses
Daycares aren't the only spaces that live on their floors. If you run a school, church, office, medical or dental office, or any business where people spend their day, a few lessons from this job apply to you too:
- Deep clean before big moments. A grand opening, an open house, a holiday event or a new school year are all worth a professional reset.
- Daily mopping isn't enough on its own. It keeps the surface tidy, but textured vinyl, tile and grout hold onto grime that only a machine scrub lifts out.
- Schedule around your people. We plan commercial jobs around your hours so staff, students and families aren't in the way.
- Plan for maintenance. Regular cleanings keep floors looking like opening day instead of waiting until they look worn.
- Start with a free walkthrough. We see the space, then send a written quote for exactly what gets cleaned.
Showing up for our neighbors
Hank's Carpet Cleaning started in Argyle in 2024, and today we work out of our office on East Southlake Boulevard, just down the road from Kids Inn. Showing up for local businesses at events like this ribbon cutting matters to us. It's how we met the Kids Inn team, and it's how we want to keep growing: one neighbor at a time.
We're proud to have played a small part in Kids Inn's opening, and we wish their families and staff a wonderful first year. Welcome to Southlake!
